ubuntu
ubuntu一词，来自非洲班图语。可粗略解释为'human kindness'。它想表述的是人之所以为人的精髓。天下大同，人人为我，我为人人。一个人的价值体现在他与别人的互动上，而不是西方笛卡尔的“我思故我在”。所谓仁者爱人,人恒爱之。
这正是ubuntu所带领的linux社区所能发展至今的原因。
apache
apache服务器是为了纪念名为apache的美洲原住民印第安人的一支。他们以高招的作战策略和无穷的耐性而著称。
apache在1995年初开发的时候，是由当时最流行的http服务器NCSA HTTPd1.3的代码修改而成，因此是“一个修补的(a patchy)”服务器.但 apache2.x分支已不包含任何NCSA的程序代码.贝伦多夫说：“我选择apache这个名字是取其积极含义。阿帕奇族是最后一个屈服于美国政府的民族。但是我们担心大公司迟早会参与竞争并”教化“这块最早的网络之地，所以在我看来，阿帕奇是个很好的名称“。
现在的apache早已不是是一个网页服务器了，ASF下那些诸多开源项目早已成了现在互联网不断发展的基石。
Mozilla
mozilla最初由 Mosaic killer一词变化而来。网景公司希望他们的 Netscape Navigator能够取代当时世界第一的Mosaic浏览器。mozilla 这个名字也与网景的吉祥物Godzilla有关。mozilla社区的成员称为“Mozillians"(摩兹志士).
关于mozilla,不得不提的是"mozilla之书",它是mozilla浏览器的一个复活节彩蛋。（地址栏输入:about:mozilla）.mozilla之书以圣经，启示录的风格写就。所以其中包含了不少隐喻。
mozilla之书版本很多，其中都提到了一个令人生畏的怪兽，一般都推测为Godzilla，象征着网景。
1995.第一版 12:10
And the beast shall come forth surrounded by a roiling cloud of vengeance. The house of the unbelievers shall be razed and they shall be scorched to the earth. Their tags shall blink until the end of days.
伴随滚滚复仇之云，野兽将一往无前。不信者的房子将被夷为平地，他们自己将被烧为焦土，他们的标签将会闪烁直到世界末日。
2000.第二版.3:31 (mozilla开源）
And the beast shall be made legion. Its numbers shall be increased a thousand thousand fold. The din of a million keyboards like unto a great storm shall cover the earth, and the followers of Mammon shall tremble.
野兽将会无所不在。他的数目将会暴增到上千千倍之多。无数嘈杂的键盘将会像风暴一样袭卷地球，玛门的追随者将受到撼动。
注：玛门在闪族语中有财富，贪欲的意思，或指贪心的恶魔。当然也有人认为指微软。

And so at last the beast fell and the unbelievers rejoiced. But all was not lost, for from the ash rose a great bird. The bird gazed down upon the unbelievers and cast fire and thunder upon them. For the beast had been reborn with its strength renewed, and the followers of Mammon cowered in horror.
最后野兽终于没落，不信者欢欣鼓舞。不过一切并没有失去，因为灰烬中冒出了一只巨大的鸟禽。那只鸟禽望向不信者，并将火与雷加诸于他们身上。野兽已经重生，力量更甚强大，玛门的追随者仓皇逃逸。
注：这一版可能是最有意思的。2003年7月15日，AOL关闭Netscape部门，成立Mozilla基金会（野兽的没落，巨鸟重生（Phoenix,即现在的Mozilla Firefox））.从巨鸟中掷出的火和雷分别指(firefox 和 thunderbird).当然，玛门依然指微软。

Mammon slept. And the beast reborn spread over the earth and its numbers grew legion. And they proclaimed the times and sacrificed crops unto the fire, with the cunning of foxes. And they built a new world in their own image as promised by the sacred words, and spoke of the beast with their children. Mammon awoke, and lo! it was naught but a follower.
玛门沉睡了。野兽重生遍布地面，而且无所不在。它们称颂时代并献出庄物直至灵巧的狐狸带来火焰。它们并依照自己的形象创造新天地，正如神圣之言所应许，尚有野兽以及孩子的话语所预言的，玛门苏醒，看！他只是个无价值的追随者。

The twins of Mammon quarrelled. Their warring plunged the world into a new darkness, and the beast abhorred the darkness. So it began to move swiftly, and grew more powerful, and went forth and multiplied. And the beasts brought fire and light to the darkness.
玛门的双生子发生了争吵。他们的交战使世界进入了一个新的黑暗，而野兽憎恨黑暗。于是它迅速的采取行动，变得更加强大，并不断地前进和繁衍。野兽为黑暗带来了火焰与光明。
